Be part of the first annual Woodstock Music Convention, to take place on the weekend of August 16th-17th, 2008, (The 39th anniversary of the original concert). FYI- Any bands that have already submitted (As of 1/21/08) will be notified and be part of our WMC Industry night series beginning March 15 at THE COLONY in Woodstock! Bands and musicians of diverse genres are invited to submit their CDs and press kits to be reviewed by a panel of music industry professionals.
Unlike any other music related forum, The WMC is NOT a "Battle of the bands", a festival, or any type of event that uses a voting system to decide a winner. The WMC is simply an industry event where bands and artists have an opportunity to 'showcase' their music in front of a panel of noted, real industry professionals: Major & Indie record label execs and A&R, noted producers, publishing companies, music marketing & promotion companies, national booking agents, radio, press, world-wide distributors and legendary musicians gathered in one place at one time. Upon review of submissions by an industry panel in varied genres, selected bands will be chosen and invited to perform live. Finalist may receive a record and/or distribution contract, recording studio time, gear and more!
MOST IMPORTANTLY, this is a rare opportunity for your band and music to gain major EXPOSURE to the legit music industry execs and potential vital connections within music publishing, touring, distribution, radio play, marketing, producers and studios that could help your band toward its future goals. During the convention bands, musicians and songwriters will have the opportunity attend various panels and seminars led by industry pro's, providing valuable information and insight regarding ways to market, publish, distribute, tour, get radio airplay, etc in order to expose your music to the 'right' people and maximize realistic opportunities to 'make it'. If your band is not chosen to perform remember, just by submitting, two band members gain free attendance to the WMC as well as a listing with band name, contact info and musical genre in our industry guide. Bands/musicians that are talented, professional, original, unique, serious, business minded and team oriented.
We ask that your submission comes with a viable and serious intent and that you are fully committed to your music, so we can fully commit to YOU being a part of our convention.
We ask you to respect the event, the town of Woodstock and each and every band involved.
WHY A FEE TO SUBMIT?
The whole concept of this event is to gather INDUSTRY together in one place at one time to do their job, which is discovering new talent. As the music business itself is going through dramatic changes and attempting to re-invent itself it's become increasingly difficult to get these professionals to do things the 'old fashioned’ way. Unfortunately for bands and artists, gone are the traditional methods of approaching labels, distributors, radio, press, booking agents, promoters, etc with your product. Just try to get any of the aforementioned to your live show that you've busted your asses to book and promote!
Hence the fee... Industry will not likely come to an event simply by being invited. There has to be a motivating factor. AMAZING talent for one, other industry minded people attending to network and schmooze with, lodging and accommodations, etc. Giving them a reason to come and share their wealth of experience in seminars and on panels doesn’t come free... The fee simply helps us toward providing the best experience for everyone involved. We want the industry to walk away knowing they saw and heard premier talent at this event, and we want you, the bands and musicians to feel that you've had a fair and legitimate opportunity for maximum exposure, press and networking.
WMC cannot select every band that submits; that could be in the hundreds or more. This is what WMC guarantees:
You WILL get added as a 'featured' band on our official website as well as our myspace page (first come, first served).
Materials sent will be reviewed, listened to and evaluated by industry pros. The most original, talented (musicianship and songwriting), outstanding bands will be selected to showcase.
ALL bands/musicians will be listed in our Industry guide along with your contact info. In the event you are not selected to perform, two band members will gain free admission to the event to attend all panels, seminars, showcases, etc, additional band members may attend at a discounted rate. You will be notified in a timely manner whether or not you've been selected. Please make certain that your availability on the weekend of August 16th -17th is flexible.
